Producing composite structures we almost exclusively do in the production facility of our joint-venture Delft Infra Composites in Breukelen, Netherlands. All big composite parts are manufactured there using vacuum infusion. This is a production process friendly to workshop personnel and the environment. Moreover, it results in high product quality.
Dry (glass) fibre reinforcement is positioned in a mould and airtight covered with a plastic bag. The fibre reinforcement is connected to a container with liquid resin. Between the mould and bag vacuum is sucked by which the resin flows and inpregnates the reinforcement. After curing of the resin the bag is removed and the product is demoulded. Vacuum infusion is very suitable for relatively small series of big products. That is why it is applied worldwide to produce sailing and motor yachts and rotorblades of wind turbines.
Vacuum infusion is a real core competence of Lightweight Structures B.V. More information is presented on www.vacuum-infusion.nl. Besides using vacuum infusion for our own production we also offer technology transfer as a service to other producers. Apart from small special composite parts that we produce in our own worksop we liek to co-operate with producing partners. An example is the high-end composite taxi boat that is described on www.composite-boat.com.
